How Does Radial Treatment Work?

Radial shockwaves are high-energy acoustic waves that spread out from the point of origin and disperse over a larger area. These shockwaves are generated by an electromagnetic or pneumatic device, and they spread through the skin and underlying tissues to reach the targeted area. Radial shockwaves are often used to treat musculoskeletal conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and shoulder pain.

Some of the ways that RSWT is thought to work include:

Radial shockwave therapy penetrates to a depth of 0cm to 5cm depending on which applicator head is used. It is an effective treatment for chronic soft tissue and tendon injuries, particularly for Plantar Fasciitis, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, tendinopathies and other muscle disorders.

Before we commence shockwave you will need an initial Physiotherapy assessment to understand the condition you have come in with and confirm that shockwave is suitable. In addition, we will need to advise on the rehab you will have to do alongside your shockwave sessions to ensure a successful outcome.

The number of treatments required will depend on what you are being treated for. Musculoskeletal treatments usually require 3-6 sessions.
